Leadership is not expressed when you focus on your environment and the people around you. Your ability to be a leader is independent of the organisation you are a part of and regardless of the leaders around you.
Being a leader means you are conscious that being swayed by such externals is a pointless exercise. You understand that you cannot control other people nor can you control all external situations.
What matters to you is how you act and react. What matters is that you are a brilliant beacon of light, shining empathy and peacefulness being in a place of confident humility and courage. This means that you do not impose your beliefs and intentions on others, rather you learn about who they are, what their intentions and beliefs might be, and find a common ground, allowing you to work together and speak a language that both will understand and accept.
