Ascension – spoken word poetry

As I search the world looking for elevation,

my exploration becomes that of finding Atlantis

We now live in a world of globalization,

we all have college degrees but no one’s giving us chances

Youth of the future are doing their best to succeed,

yet the old guard is not giving them anything to celebrate

The rich get richer, restaurants just serving them greed,

what do we have to do just to authenticate

Our way of life is at stake

while you don’t finish your plate

some poor kids in Africa could use that steak

As I meditate sitting upon my mountain of dreams

I ponder about the elitist society we’ve built just to form the cream of the cream

What happens to humanity when all we have is our big old brains,

but have lost all spirituality

we don’t even have enough compassion to help when a young child screams

Like robots we send our kids to factories

just to jump on the bandwagon and hop on the train

This school of living is like a prison on a campus

Show me the Monet and you’ll see it in the pixels of my canvas

As you visualize and advance through this metaphorical imagery

You’ll start to perceive in my heart and spirit exists universal energy

I’m a being of this cosmic galaxy,

elevated conscience is my serenity

Mass media and corporations are like Jack from Tennessee

tryin’ to erase my memory

But even though we hung over

youngling’s of tomorrow they still gon’ soldier

The right to fight in my eyes is the fight for right

clear as your blue eyes fear not to look up at the sky

My parents always told me to reach for the stars

That if I’d reach far enough, forget the moon, I’ll go to mars

I kept reaching and suddenly the teaching reached my heart

I ascended my awareness; all you have to do is start

Don’t be afraid, the worst that could happen is that you’ll get caught

A life lived to the fullest in jail

is better than free time wasted just to rot,

Ask Mandela if that is true or if it’s just a thought

Talk to Ghandi and X whether it is or it is not

Elevate your mind, the Mayans say it is time

To just stand by, there is no greater crime
